Georgia 2019 - Keep Georgia Beautiful

Project Description/Objective: Keep Georgia Beautiful's Bring One for the Chipper program collects Christmas trees each year in early January to mulch or create fish habitat in ponds and lakes. The program creates collection points all across the state, mostly in conjunction with Home Depot, where residents can bring their Christmas trees to recycle and receive a seedling in return to plant around their homes.

Ecological Benefits: Increasing tree canopy in communities with the potential to provide shade, decrease energy consumption, provide stormwater runoff control, and numerous other environmental benefits.

Community Benefits: By recycling their Christmas trees and receiving and planting a seedling, homeowners show their concern in conserving and improving their environment. There is also a strong education component for all ages about recycling through messaging from Keep Georgia Beautiful about why Christmas trees should be recycled and about planting and caring for trees by the Georgia Forestry Commission with the planting and care instructions that are distributed with the seedlings.
